A community of people who love cinema

About Frame One

A space where people who love movies come to understand and practice them.

Frame One is a place for people fascinated by cinema, built so you can learn how films actually get made, and start making your own. You’ll find film news, reviews, breakdowns of how your favorite scenes work, original stories and scripts, and, when you’re ready to go deeper, courses and workbooks you can put to work right away.

Most material about filmmaking is either too academic or too vague. Frame One teaches from real, produced films only, never invented examples. Every lesson is meant to be applied, not just read, so you leave with something you actually used.

This is meant to be more than a place you visit once. It’s meant to become a community: a group of people who take cinematography seriously and want to bring it closer to their own lives, whether that means finally writing the script you’ve had in your head for years, understanding why a scene you love works the way it does, or just having somewhere to talk about film with people who care as much as you do.

“I wanted people from all over the world who are fascinated by cinema to find, in this space, a place where it all becomes real, where the fantasy of movies stops being a mystery and starts being something you can actually understand and do yourself.”

— Paul Decu, founder of Frame One

Filmmaking in practice

Mission

Make cinema feel understandable and reachable, not distant. If you’ve ever watched a movie and wondered how a particular scene was built, why a story hits the way it does, or how anyone actually turns an idea into a finished film, Frame One is meant to answer that, clearly and honestly, without dumbing it down and without hiding behind jargon.

You don’t need to be planning to become a professional filmmaker to belong here. You just need to be curious. Whatever brought you to cinema in the first place, that’s what we’re here to help you understand and act on, one honest, applied piece of content at a time. Some days that means reading a breakdown of a scene that’s stayed with you for years. Other days it means finally sitting down and outlining the story you’ve been carrying around in your head. Either way, you’re not doing it alone, and you’re not doing it from a textbook that has nothing to do with real films.

As Frame One grows, so will this mission: more courses, more workbooks, more analysis, and more ways for you to connect cinema to your own life and work.
